Silkidranar by Samaris

Samaris is an unconventional combination. Its a band that consists of a clarinet player (Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir), a singer (Jófríður Ákadóttir) and an electronic musician (Þórður Kári Steinþórsson).

Together they play some sort of downtempo electronica/triphop. Their sound is filled with space, atmosphere and maybe even a little melancholia.

The band was formed in January 2011 and only a few months later they won the Music Experiments (the icelandic ‘battle of the bands’).

In summer 2011 they released a three song album called ‘Hljóma Þú’ which got very good reception both in the Icelandic media and the people, and got the Kraumur Award in 2011.

Their new album Silkidranar is animated by a mystic texts taken from ancient an Icelandic poems of 19. century. Listen e.g. to Tíbrá with the engimatic trompet!
